With the XYZ Switch loose position it one way fully, tighten up the 2 10mm bolts, and check the PRND321 reading on the dash and the LED indicator on the shifter. If it's not being displayed properly crawl back under it, loosen the 2 10mm bolts, and move the XYZ Switch in the other direction. That normally is enough adjustment to get the XYZ Switch adjusted.

I'm trying remove the neutral safety switch to clean it. I removed the 2 10mm bolts but the one on the arm that looks like it goes into tranny is still holding it on. I remove this also to free up the Neutral Safety switch, right?

The 13mm on the shaft itself "should" break free once the shifter linkage rotates and stops.

The nut/shaft threads look rusty. Spray with lube and remove it prior to loosening the switch bolts. Once nut removed the arm/link may still need a bit of wiggling or prying to get it off. Then the switch will slide off shaft.

Diagnose, diagnose, diagnose.

According to the RAVE there are 15 different faults that can trigger the flashing M&S lights and limp home mode. Only one (P0705) has anything to do with the XYZ switch. You say you have fault code P1884. It is one of the 15. The RAVE says the fault description for P1884 combined with the flashing M&S lights is "* CAN message: Engine speed invalid." The footnote for the asterisk says "*=Emissions (OBD II) relevant." Given that let's look at the other two fault codes.

P0103 - Mass or volume air flow high input (MAF signal > maximum threshold, which is speed dependent)

P0112 - Intake air temperature circuit low input (Intake air temperature signal less than minimum threshold, after time for exhaust to warm up)

According to the RAVE the MAF and intake air temp sensors are combined into a single unit.

Therefore, you have a problem with the MAF/IAT that could be triggering the P1884 trans code, flashing M&S and limp mode. If I were you I'd first check the MAF connector and if that doesn't clear up the problems I'd replace the MAF. When replacing the MAF always ensure you use the genuine Bosch part.

Diagnose, diagnose, diagnose.
