Default Locked Rear Passenger Door

The rear passenger door to my 2002 Discovery II is closed and will not unlock/open. I can pull up the unlock tab manually and I hear normal "clunk" of the mechanism unlocking, but the door will not unlock. I can also electronically unlock with the pull tab going up and down, but still will not open. The door panel is off.

I know this part is not attached::

This is a pic of a replacement part that a friend dropped into the bottom of the door and it not been installed, yet. What is the best course of action to get the door open? Saw through the locking catch on the side of the door opening and get a replacement actuator? Another trick? Ideas/thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

If the actuator is working, then it likely is just stuck. Kick from inside with two feet. What happens when inside latch is pulled? You can open front door and pull hinges but unlikely that helps.

I pulled the door handle inside and held it back and tried kicking it. Didn't budge. I agree, I dont think pulling the bolts from the hinges will help.

Anyone have any other ideas? Saw through the catch with a hacksaw blade and get a new actuator?

What does it do when you pull the handle from the inside?

My rear door is stubborn. When I go to open it from the outside (I know you cant do that with that rod missing) as often as not I have to give it a shove closed before it will unlatch. If I have it open and close it softly - though still fully closed - I have to give it a shove, if I slam it pretty good it will open fine. If i slam it good then go drive I'll probably have to shove it before it'll open again. Try shoving it closed then go inside and try to unlatch it.

I confirmed the child safety lock lever is in the unlock position. I pulled the inside door handle and then tried to pull the cable forward with small needle nose pliers and there as zero give and the door remains shut. I can feel the cable move slightly as a pull the handle at the other end of the actuator and It seems like is working (the cable) as it should.

Maybe the rod (pic in the original post) needs to be installed and maybe I can open it from the outside, maybe? Thoughts?

Is there a schematic for how the rod is installed? I didn't take it out when it got dropped into the belly of the door. Is there a trick for installing it? Tips?

Thanks for the help!!

I should also note that I am reading that the door maybe "Super Locked". I do not have a fob for the truck. Is there a way to reset the super lock function without a remote? And, if I can reset the super lock function without a fob and the exterior handle inoperable, will this solve any issues? Or, is this even an issue? The truck is not in super lock mode now, I am driving it around and the other door lock and unlock fine.

If it was superlocked that woudl explain not being able to open it. I am away from my workshop till Friday so I can't send a good set of pics but in the meantime I suggest you review all the available thread on replacing the motors in a door lock actuator. Those threads will give you a view in to the inner workings of the door lock actuators. There is a plastic cover over the superlock actuator that can be removed somewhat with the door closed and the inner panel off. You can also verify several of the lever mechanisms are working correctly. You could even consider getting a spare off ebay or from a LR breaker and use it as a reference to learn how the actuator works and in the unfortunate case you have to destroy yours you will have a replacement.

Thanks Extinct. I'll review the other threads and see what I can find, and thanks for the pics when you get back to your shop Friday. I too can't get to my Rover until arounds Friday. As I reacall, the whole reason for this is that we replaced the actuator a few years ago and then this happened.

I'll have to see, but I do have a Nanocom, and maybe its has the ability to "un-Superlock" the door? I dont have a fob/remote for this truck, but I can get one programed to the truck with the Nanocom. Or, is it possible to make changes with the Nanocom and unlock the Superlock with just the key to the door?

I have two Discovery IIs, and they sit idle at times for a while and I forget what I used to know.

Thanks for the help.
