Default Long, thin vent on top of dash - removal???

I have an '04 Disco SE and I'm trying to hard-wire my GPS with a kit I can plug directly into my radio via the ISO connectors and I desperately want to hide the wires.

Anyone know how to safely remove the long, thin black vent that is on the top of the dash without snapping it and/or losing the clips?

I tried yesterday (with the stereo removed) and couldn't figure it out. Or any advice with regard to fishing wires down defroster vets would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Why not drill a hole under the rubber mat that is right in front of it and run the wires through that.

Otherwise your wires may move around inside the vent and make noise - especially with the defroster on.
