All he'd told me is a newer power steering pump has been done.

I've seen a stack of 04s last year. This looks clean. But I'm always suspicious. When I was looking there was always something wrong with them, always.

The listing is short.
The price is low.
The mileage is 'just' under the magic 100k.
The seller will know other d2s are listed higher. He doesn't sound in a rush to sell it, but it is priced to sell.
No history.

My guess is,

It ticks.
It isn't his to sell.
It's rotten underneath.
It overheats.
Coolant mysteriously goes 'somewhere' after about 30 minutes of moderate driving.
Etc.

I really do hate to be negative. Just my experience. I got very tired with sellers mis representing their Discos. When I see another Disco advert I feel like the old woman out of the Matrix. This isn't the chosen one. There is no spoon.

But, I stuck with it, and using my newly acquired BS detector skills found one. Albeit over priced. You got to check them out to hone your own detector. Go check it out, and spend an hour with it. 20 minutes not running, 40 minutes at least running/driving/revving etc. Insist it's stone cold when you get there. Don't let him start it until you are ready.

That is exactly what I was looking for. I am going to hold off a little while. I am not in a rush and the longer it sits on craigslist the better.

Good idea I'm doing the same with a 1999 disco in my area. Sometimes you just have to sit and wait. The right one will come around.

I have been waiting a long time but after my 97 I am in no rush.

I would really like an 04 but they are either too high in price or I just don't trust them or the seller.
