Default Series II Discovery - What to look for when purchasing

Noob here. I am looking for a Series II Discovery for my girlfriend. What do I look out for? What common failures/problem/etc should I be mindful of besides besides the obvious (body/engine timing/maintaince). Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx

No 1 particular reason. She likes the look, is use to 4WD vehicles, and often transports multiple kids to and fro school, etc. She feels safer in those vehicles. I am not afraid...haha..at all to get dirty and wrench. I come from the Audi market so I am familiar with 4WD (or AWD) systems, expensive parts and all the fun that goes into a higher end vehicle. Plus its a status symbol, every nice socker mom in Chicago has a Discovery. Plus I could use it for some fun when I don't want my dropped Audi's running over ice bricks. Would be a great weekend get away vehicle, etc. But mostly it will be a point A-B vehicle in her care with me being the primary on-hand wrench.

OK, I was just worried this was a young girl who might be getting into more problems then she could afford.
How much is she looking to spend?
The market is real soft right know and there are some nice low mileage trucks out there.

Market does look pretty soft right now. I am finding plenty of lower milage Disco II's for around the 8-9k range which right about where she was planning, well shooting for no more than 12k on a used vehicle but obviously the better deal will be a driving factor. There are plenty that I can find around Chicago at that price or lower so I think for her sake I am gonna stick my guns out for the 8k range under 100k miles. She also likes the idea of the 3rd row seating too but not all of em I am finding have it, is that something I can just rip off a Disco somewhere and install or some after-market or even factory upgrade I can do?

Thanx for all the help.

You don't want to try and add a used set of seats to a vehicle that is not built with them, Different floor design.
Sound like you need to buy ans SE7 to get that package. I have seen some 99's selling for $7000 to $8000 with 2001 in the $10,000 to $11,00 range.
Biggest thing to look for would signs of leaking head gaskets, try and find a truck with service recors and if you can get a service contract to cover it for 2 or 3 years get it.
Let me know how it goes.
