Looking at 2002..Have question?
Hello, I'm looking at buying a 2002 Disco with 109,000 miles (mostly highway) for $10,500. Its in great shape with all service records and no partshave ever had to be replaced. (Which I see as both a good thing and bad thing.) My major worry is that I buy the Rover andthe head gasket or some other pricy part goes out. If nothing has gone wrong yet...can I expect it to soon? Will I blow a head gasket at 115,000mi? (My borther's 97 XDs went out at 60,000mi) I want a Rover but don't want the worry of several thousand in repairs in the first couple of months. Any adivce to help me make up my mind...

There are no assurances in life, you may be fine for years and you may spring a leak over night, that hold true with any vehicle.
Proper maintance will help prevent big issues, but as they say, anything mechanical can break and we need to be prepared for that.

I would be really amazed if it made it to 109k without a new head gasket amongst other things.
Bottom line - you will be dropping several thousands of dollars on this car withing the next few years. That would be true if this vehicle only had 60k or even less on the ticker. These trucks just require diligent maintenance and repair. If it were me, I'd continue my hunt for the well documented one owner with less miles, even if it cost $2-4,000 more.

Sounds like a good truck for a fresh engine. Drop in a nice built RPI or similar and it will be faster, more efficient, and last longer than a stock Rover engine easily. I'm going to be doing this probably next year, but from the looks of things I'll have most other things maintained or upgraded in some way by then.
