Default Looking to buy this 2000 disco2

I'm new to the Land Rover discoverys 2 series. I'm going to look at this 2000 Land Rover with 130000 miles. No rust. He said its never been in the snow but for one year. Trucks from FL and its now in NE where it snows and the next day it will be 70 degrees out. What should I look for under the hood wheels and tranny. What are the main problems with this truck and year? I used to have a 89 RR so I know about them but not the disco 2s. What should I look for around the transfer case? I need help. Hes asking $3200. Thank you for all our help.

You would be a lot better off, if you decide to buy the truck, having a Rover mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection so you know what you are buying with no surprises. then you can decide what to offer. Plan on spending around $1000 on whatever you buy once you get hold of it, for a new front drive shaft and maintance.

No sunroofs increases the value of the vehicle, leaks, headliner damage, jammed, plastic parts that break off, etc.

Common things to "Discover" in first few days of ownership problems -

Discover overheating - (does a scanner plugged in at idle show above 212?) Heat gauge is programmed to show 50% from 130 to about 230F.

Discover radiator stop leak - owner dumped two jugs of stop leak in before sale, to control head gasket leak or cracked block. Shows up a something in the coolant bottle as other than clear coolant. A temporary fix.

Discover warning lights that don't work - owner removed, painted over, taped over, cut wires to warning lights. Most lights have a 3 second bulb test at engine start. Download the owner manual in the RAVE (factory set of manuals - free)

Discover engine codes - plug in your own OBDII scanner, or as part of test drive stop by auto parts store for a free scan.

Discover noise under dash like rushing water in pipes - from bubbles in the coolant, can be air (leak around a hose clamp) or exhaust gas (head gasket). $60 chemical test will sniff the coolant and change colors for exhaust gas in coolant.

Discover ticking noise at idle - once vehicle is warmed up, a slipping sleeve will starting banging into the head gasket. It may go away with higher rpm.

Discover Dexcool - a coolant that breaks down and turns into sludge in the cooling system. Redish orange color.

Discover the 3 Amigos - three warning lights that relate to a special combination of problems that involve the ABS system.

Discover that RAVE stands for "Rovers A'int Very Economical" - the factory set of manuals was originally called Rover Automated Viewing Enviroment, great bed time reading.

Discover that single digit mpg is possible in a modern vehicle.

Discover that you wish you had done a pre-purchase inspection with a pro mechanic.

Discover that front prop shaft is not greaseable.
