Default Looking to buy 2004 Discovery but leery

I am new to the LR Forum and am looking to purchase a 2004 Discovery in the very near future.
Have been researching the vehicle and am aware of all the engine / cooling issues associated with the vehicle. Am looking for
a SoCal or western US shop that rebuilds and sells vehicles that they have personally refurbished. Have come across a bunch
of sketchy used car facilities selling LR but for such a high end marque they really seem to be marginally legit. Would appreciate
forum members input and recommendations. Thanks everyone...

Why 04? Highest prevalence of slipped lines of all the years and most common year for sd models with vinyl seats. Having owned 9, I would recommend as old as possible with low miles. All other 04 desirable features (cdl, wabco computer, headlights, taillights) can be retrofitted. Power difference between 4.0 and 4.6 is barely noticeable. Also, 04 has the worst roof rails in my opinion, 99-03 have easily findable extensions and cross bars.

I love my 99-02’s, and yes I do own an 04, but I grabbed it due to no sunroofs, and it was an S model with 7 seats. It was also immaculate inside/out minus the oil light flaw. But I like the 99-02 headlights made out of glass. That plastic stuff looks very modern, but not when it’s faded or full of water!! Glass lights rarely do it vs plastic.

4.6L is peppy, but not worth it vs the 4.0. I also like older non SAI D2’s.

Just take your time, and take an OBDII tool that will monitor temps.

As you're waiting save up every month, and if you don't find a suitable runner, purchase one iwth a blown headgasket and put in a new engine.
