Default Looking to buy a Disco series 2

Hello to everyone. I am looking for advise on buying a 1999 to 2003 Discovery 2. I live in the Los Angeles area and prices seem to be around the $7000 range. The Rover will be used for off roading. I don't do serious rock climbing, just exploring back roads and snow trips. I have owned three Jeeps, two Broncos, a Toyota 4x4 pu, a K1500 and a Suzuki Samuari. I have been watching Youtube videos of Discos doing some serious off roading and they look quit capable. What is the different between the SD and SE models? I have seen a Discovery with a "special vehicle" added to the bottom fo the Land Rover logo on the side (looked factory). I have read that the ACE system is bad for offroading. I understand that the center diff lock kits are avaliable for pre 2002 models that do not have it, who is a supplier? Is this true and are there any other suggestions that you might be able to help me with...problems to look for...common quirks???

Thanks
Mark

A '99 will already have the CDL.
SLS can let you down on the trail.
Do a search on here for "the 3 amigos"
You MUST use premium gas.
You MUST have the front driveshaft rebuilt using grease able u-joints.
Head gaskets go bad around 80,000 miles, so try and get one with over 100k.
Stay away from the 18" rim.

They are British, they will have quirks, so many that it will drive you mad.

Unsure where or what you read about the ACE system,

Just for info, Vehicles with ACE have MORE axle articulation when off road than vehicles fitted with standard anti roll bars. On road the is NO comparsion, ACE is a super system and makes the D2 stand out miles above the rest for on road driving.
