looking to buy a discovery
hey. I'm new to this forum.
I've been researching the Land Rover Discoveries cause i love them so much.
I have a couple questions:
1. which year do you guys prefer?
2. i've heard it has a lot of electronic problems, is that true?
thanks!

1. Depends. If you're looking at a DI (mechanically simpler, cheaper/fewer things that can go wrong, but also older and higher mileage) they're all pretty much the same.
If you're looking at a DII (more expensive, and more things that can go wrong, but lower mileage, more fun things to play with
) then I'd say 04 is the best year. Be careful with 2003 DIIs, there's a range of VINs that have a catastrophic oil pump failure, the only cure to which is a new engine.
2. Also depends. If you take care of your truck it will take care of you. Problems will occur in any car or truck, but with Rovers you can prevent them greatly by just staying on top of regular maintenances.

Well not knowing your price range...DII's have better road manners and more interior room, they also have better ergonomics.
DII's have more problems and are more expensive to maintain and repair. They are also harder to work on for the DIY'er.
DII's are good off road in stock form.
DI's are slower, smaller and drive like a truck. They have fewer problems, are easier to work on for the DIY'er and parts tend to be cheaper.
DI's are better off road in stock form than a DII.
Both trucks require premium gas, you can expect 12-14 city and 16-18 expressway.
As a daily driver both are very reliable, they have their quirks, they are easy to find in the mall parking lot but becareful when you go into a parking ramp. (almost 7' tall)
Test drive each and see which one you like better.
Stay away from a 2003.
Once you narrow it down to which kind you like we can tell you the common problems and what to look out for.
