Default looking to buy a discovery

I am just looking to buy a 2003 discovery, but i had some questions first.
Ive heard that discoveries are not reliable and they cost too much money for repairs? is that true?
if so, is it smart to get extended warranty through a company? ive looked around some warranty companies but they dont even provide this service for the discovery.
so what would the smart choice be?
thanks alot

read everything on here you can before buying, all the sticky threads. Stay away from the '03s with the oil pump failure problem.

Ignore the nay-sayers on reliability. Discos are some of the most reliable trucks around, you just have to make sure to do the regularly scheduled maintenance on time. Repairs and maintenance are definitely not as cheap as a Civic but again, people exaggerate a lot. I make $100 a week and I can afford to keep mine running no problem so you should be fine.

Warranties are a little more subjective. Some people say they'll never buy one again and some say they'll never buy anything without one.
