Looking at buying a Disco
I am looking at buying a 2000-2003 Disco and was just curious on what to look out for. Most of the Disco's in my area have about 75,000 miles for the year.
Any inherant problems with any of these?
What kind of life can you expect to get out of the Transmission and engine?
And did these only come in Automatics?
Do these have Timing Chains and Belts?
It does not seem like maintenace is not that bad if you do the work yourself. Are these difficult to work on asuming your have a pretty good mechanical apptitude?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Mark

Late 2001 to 03 you can not lock the transfer case. They came back with the shifter in 04. 03 cme out with the 4.6 engine. Really, the 04 is the best of everything. If you get a pre 2001, you have to either get the linkage or solenoid set-up to lock the case, if yours is lockable.
Oil leaks and head gasket failures are common. The gasket job will run you about $1500 at an indy shop. The engines are aluminum along with the heads. Old 1960's Buick pushrod engines with timing chains.
If you are mechanical and keep up with it, it isn't too bad. They require more than most, but can do more than most as well. Just an FYI, look for 13 to 17MPG. Not too much you can do about that one..
I would go for an 04, if it was me.....
