Default Looking to get a Disco, few questions.

I'm looking to get a 96-00 Discovery, and I've never owned a Land Rover before, and I don't really have the biggest budget. I just admire all the nice things that come with the Land Rovers.. but I've heard a lot about the maintenance and upkeep on these vehicles being extremely costly for what would be cheap on other vehicles. Is this true? And if so, should I completely give up on trying to obtain one of these, because as of right now they appear to be the best bargain for the price, but I do not want to shell out the money and then not be able to maintain it.

Same as my defender, if your not mechanically inclined and things **** you of when they mess up, don't get one.

Well dang, Im starting to lose interest in purchasing one of these vehicles.

Ireally like them, and I wanted something that I could look good in and go offroading in, and it seemed to be a perfect car for college, but like i said money is pretty tight right now, and ive heard a lot of good reviews, and a lot of bad reviews dealing with the maintenance on these cars.

So, is it really THAT bad,and should I look for something else?

Definitely not the perfect car for college, especially if you want to make regular trips home. The gas mileage is not the best (17mpg at the most) and these trucksREQUIRE premium gas. Don't get me wrong, I love my Disco, but if you are not handy with a wrench then you will be paying out the a$$ to keep it up. You have more important things to spend your $ on, like cute co-eds and 1$ drafts.

buy one and buy a $500 honda. Have a place to park it. If its broke you can still use the back seat.

find a solid D1, do all the maintenance yourself and you can probably get by on a budget.
