Records? Looks like a good price.
Dealer maybe not , individual most likely that way you
can talk to them and get a feel if its just time to sell or they
don't want to fix it.

I just had the ABS light on my 98 fixed. It was the sensor at the rightfront wheel. The check engine light is very common but.... there are so many things it could be indicating. For the money its probably a good rig. I paid $6500 for mine last month. The thing about these old rovers is they always need something so you have to decide .spend money or drive it til it drops. I had the same decision constantly with my old Jag. Little by little i stopped putting the money into repairs so eventualy it was a piece of crap which i sold for less than I wanted to someone willing to pour money into it again.
Good luck

First off, if it runs fine, the price I think is damn good. The check engine light is probably an O2 sensor, but you'll have to scan it to know. On mine, the thermostat was shot and it set a Low Temp alarm. It was an easy fix. I have a scanner/code clearer, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Generally ABS light is a wheel sensor, but again, ya never know until it's scanned. My scanner won't do brakes. That might be a dealer thing, or a shop that does import work.

Overall, you have to ask ifthe vehicle issomething you want to drive. Is the mileage in your range. Also consider your mechanical skills. It's likely to need maintenance and work. If you can and are willing to do some work it'll reduce cost of ownership. I don't know how you could lose. If it looks good, you should be able to sell it next week for more than you paid. Hard to say w/o seeing it.
