Default Looking to Purchase Discovery

Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a 2003-04 Discovery SE or HSE. Is there any advise I can get on what to look for when purchasing. I have seen some real clean ones online and fixing to go start looking in person.

Do a search. Plenty of info on these forums!

Definetly do a search on the vin range for 03 and 04's with oil pump failures.

IMO go with an 04, no oil pump problems and CDL.

There is a button called "search" in the strip on the top of this page. You will find all of your questions have been answered 10+ times before. Once you have done this ask questions that are still unanswered. The guys on here get sick of answering the same questions over and over.

CDL = Center Differential Lock - if you are really going to take this offroad then you will want the ability to lock your t-case.

I hope i wasn't too rude, just trying to help another noob (like me) find his way.

Not really, thats what we're here for! But the search function is very handy for finding a quick response to common questions.

Anyways, as mentioned the 2004 is where you should focus your attention. It is by far the best year of the disco and it doesnt have the oil pump issues like some of the 2003's had. The 2004's will be more expensive in your search, but it will be well worth in in the long run. Plus, the CDL will be a great option to have even if you only go off road a few times.

Since the 2004 model was the last year of the Disco II, it has many of the issues worked out and imperfections perfected. (if that makes sense).

Before you buy, read over the stickies on the top of the Discovery section. Read Spike's "What to look for when Buying a Discovery." and you will learn alot about what to look out for in your search.

Good luck and let us know if you have any specific questions.

why are you guys saying the '04 doesn't have the oil pump problem when we just had a tread not long ago about how some '04s do have the oil pump problem?

There were so few that the chance of actually getting one is slim to none, and technically its not even related. The 03's were plagued with it, the 04's were not. 04's, NEVER had the 03 engine installed in them. What issues the 2004's had were unrelated to the engine block casting issue and their number of oil pressure issues has never been any higher then any other engine. IMO there is nothing to worry about with the 04 regarding oil pump.
