Default Looking at a Series 1 Disco

Hi.

Im looking to get a Series 1 Disco, I prefer being able to work in the field and from what I understand, it appears theres less computer problems. (I know about the abs problem/fix) (Looking around a 96 model, diesel)

I am willing and actually aiming to replace the springs/shocks so general wear and tear isnt a problem. I am aiming for one thats never or barely ever been offroad.. I know to check the transfer case and whatnot. I hope to take any potential Disco for a very extended drive, minor offroad if permitted. (Just enough to engage the transfer case..)

I cant see the reason for spending extra to go up to the Series 2 when the 1 would serve my needs better. Can you?

Are there any differences in quality between the 200 and the 300 tdi?

Thanks for your help.

Fox

I know it might seem like I am asking questions that have been answered time and time again, but I dont think I am. Cars age, I have been working my way back from the last page in this forum, im into the 20's now, ive read quite a lot. (And will be buying a laptop - OBD system interface!)

Cars age, what might have been good advice a few years ago, might not be now. The little things, broken contacts in switches, new brushes for motors.. all that, I can do easily. The larger stuff, pulling the engine out, things like that I have trouble with. (Lack of tools and most of my experience is with petrol engines) I would like to know if I am buying a heap of trouble.. Most of the Discos in my price range are 93-95 or so, I might end up with a better looked after 93 instead of a 95 with no visible service history.

Oh, anyone know if the Disco can function without the diagnostic system, does it have a seperate computer or will it just fall over? (I intend on taking it through rivers, deserts and anywhere else I can get to!)

Possibly one reason you did not here back from anyone-- is that the majority of us do not have any diesel experience. In the US ---the diesel is not available. If you want to read about the other mechanical andelectrical gremlins --- go to my site at www.eurotekapg.com and read the tech info pages.

Hi Fox
I have both a 200tdi and td5 so there is a big leap in fancy stuff and i shudder if something was to stop the td5 off road so the 200tdi does that job well. No fancy computerised electrics, if you keep up the maintenance (very simple stuff)and the fuel clean, good oils, they are just about unstoppable. I would look at a private seller who is a Landy nut and forget about glorified "service records".
Bigfoot.
