Default Lost Oil Pressure in my '03...options..

Hello...After a many months battle with misfire codes on my '03 disco...my oil pressure light came on ~ 1/4 mile from my home...I am sure it lost pressure becuase the valvetrain became very loud...I tried firing it up again this morning, and the light is on...oil level is at the full mark...over the past week I did notice the oil light quickly blinked a few times, it was not contant and I thought it may just be due to the cold weather we are experiencing....the engine currently has 96k.....thoughts?....thank you...Dan..

Your oil pump is toast.
Depending on how long you ran it with no oil pressure you might get away with just replacing the oil pump.
Otherwise you need a new engine.

x2 on the oil pump. You didn't mention in your original post, but are you in the VIN range? I guess it doesn't matter at this point, just curious.

thank you for the replies...yes my engine is in the vin range (3A796570).....I am looking for some opinions....prior to the oil pump failure, I have had a bad miss in Cyl #1 for months...I replaced the wires, intake gaskets etc. but have never been able to eliminate the miss...I am also burning a small amount of coolant....so I may have the beginnings of a headgasket leak...and lastly the engine has delveloped a loud tick that I cannot locate...my current thoughts, will all the other issues and the motor at 96K, it doesn't seem like it it worth it to try installing another pump but go for a rebuilt long block...searching thru some other posts this would cost ~ 5k....is it really worth it to spend this much on a '03 SE7?...

thanks!!

The bad Vin# Range is: 3A771801- 3A808362. It looks like you fall into that range. As far as is it worth it? I think everybody's situation is different. What shape is the vehicle in? Does it suit your needs? Would you keep it for a while? Your options are limited in trying to sell it.

I have an 03' in that range w/47K miles. Right now it's worth it for me to keep and opt for another motor if it comes to that day. I love our Disco for the purposes that it serves.

Good luck!

The money spent will be worth it if your going to keep the truck. Replacing the motor with a long block is not gonna be cheap, on top of that you won't get that money back should you decide to sell it. I am with Zonk myself, I have an engine tick that has gotten worse, so now it is parked till after the holidays to do some teardown. If I end up needing a motor, I will keep it because the rest of the truck is in excellent condition.

Start it up and park it facing out in your driveway, make sure it is in such a way that a tow truck could easily get to it.
Then start shopping for used engines.
Then decide if you want to keep it or sell it.
Keep in mind that if you still owe on it you are kinda stuck.

You'll need a motor if it falls in the vin range, the dowels on the engine that align the oil pump are out of position cause stress on the pump which cause them to blow, I also had one where the pressure relief spring would stick causing the filters to blow up.

Your driving it 1/4 miles with the light on just cost you a new engine. Do not even waste you time with that engine.
Many people call warning lights, "IDIOT LIGHTS" for a reason and it is not the vehicle, it is the driver who doesn't pay attention to them.
Hate to see you loose and engine. If you need help locating another one, give me a shout.
