Louder Exhaust
Im looking for a cheap way to get that good v8 sound out of my rig. Getting tired of having to pop the hood to prove it's v8. Any way I can make my exhaust louder legally without having to but a performance exhaust system? thanks for the help
Chop off the resonator, have some magnaflow catalytic converters welded in. Order them online from Advance Auto and get that sweet sweet online discount. Sell the old cats online. You'll need a 2.25" diameter converter for the exhaust shop to weld in and then weld a piece of 2.5" pipe in place of the rear resonator. You can try just chop the resonator and clamp in a straight piece of 2.5" pipe and see how you like it, but it wasn't enough for me.
Here is the sound without resonator. It sounded a LOT like an '07-'10 Silverado:
Here is the sound without the resonator and with the Magnaflow Cats. I thought it had a great sound. I only really changed it because I wanted something more flow-ey.
Here it is with the Magnaflow cats, Flowmaster 40 Muffler, and no resonator. Sounded amazing, but droned like crazy:
And finally, here it is with Magnaflow cats, Borla Pro XS (single in dual out) Muffler, No resonator. I used a different camera for that one, so the sound isn't as good, but it's still a decent reference.
I also had a glasspack at one point, it was a Thrush 26" length 2.5" pipe with a perforated core. That was a really good sound too, but it was my first real "loud" exhaust modification and my mother was P.O'd, so she made me remove it (truck was still in her name). There was barely any drone with it and it wasn't actually that loud, so if you want to go cheap then that would be something to try. I think the glasspack was only about $30 at O'Reilly.

Oh, and if you go to the link in my signature then there are a couple more videos way down. The first you'll see is the true dual X-pipe with a couple louvered core 24" Jones glasspacks that sounded pretty good but didn't flow for sh*t because of the louvers. The second will be the Thrush dumped straight out without the tailpipe connected.
As for passing Texas inspection; just the resonator removed and Magnaflow cats should be because the packaging says legal in every state except CA, but I don't want to say for sure. I'm in Virginia and we might be a little different than you guys. I even ran straight pipes for a couple days and nobody really said anything, but that was while I was waiting on new mufflers in the mail.
