Hey all! The Disco went from being a daily driver (20,000 miles/year) to basically a Sunday or occasional car (4000 miles/year) as of late. Assuming this is kind of the new normal, how should the maintenance cycle adjust, if it even does? All the fluids are top end synthetic versions of Mobil 1. Six months for oil changes? TC and AT fluid OK at just their normal interval changes? Brake and coolant were always done annually, just keep on with that cycle?

 

I’m not the expert, but at that usage I would change the oil yearly. I think coolant is good for 4or5 years. The most stringent brake fluid change recommendation that I’ve seen is 2 years. I tend to be a bit lazier and let it go up to 4 years, but I live in a relatively dry climate (water absorption is one of the main concerns about brake fluid).

 

This is very similar to my case and as others have me tied water absorption is the biggest threat- both inside and outside. To combat this I:
1)Try to give it a good drive at least once a week, by getting everything up to temperature and keeping it there the moisture will boil out of the fluids. Taking it for a drive also helps exchange the air inside the vehicle which brings me to 2) Get some of those moisture absorber bas to bins from the RV section at Walmart (I get mine from the dollar store, actually) and stick those in the cabin.

 

TBH, the reason I do brake and coolant changes annually is less about replacing expired fluids and more just as a forced check for leaking hoses and fittings. The fluid itself is so inexpensive. I've done that with all my cars. Also because working on cars is fun for me and I'll take any excuse to do it haha.

Just change the oil 1x year and give it a good 1/2 hr plus drive couple times a month - keep an eye on the tire pressure - wash it periodically - nothing else IMO
