I have an '04, so no oil cooler. I have been using brad penn 10w-30 since the rebuild. I have not checked the rpm with a scanner yet, I will get back to you on that. Thanks.

 

Until you actually get real psi readings on your oil pressure then your just playing a guessing game.

 

They put the oil cooler back in '04.
10w-30 is the wrong oil to use, 15w-40 is the correct oil to use.

 

I didn't know that. But, there is no oil cooler in mine regardless. I will switch to a different oil. Could that cause the issue?

 

you dont know if you have an issue until you pop on a gauge and get a reading. 10w30 will not cause your light to come on.

 

Thanks for all of the input. It has been a week since the new oil pump was put in. The oil pressure when warm is 60psi at 2000rpms and between 4-10psi at idle. It has not dropped below 6psi in the last few days (no warning light). The truck is idling at around 500rpms. I am going to clean out the throttle body and idle sensor next to see if it is due to low idle. Could the new pump have taken a few days to prime correctly? is idle to blame? or is it most likely bearings on a 15k rebuild?

 

You prime the oil pump when you install it, after the initial start up it is primed, if not it will not prime later, either you have oil PSI or you dont.

I am going to say it is because of the low idle speed.

 

seem like you keep going back over the same stuff, dump the 10-30, it is not helping your problem.

Fill it with 15-40 rottella, get an oil preasure gauge and an OBDII scanner, have someone hold the idle at 700-750 and record your readings hot and cold at idle and at 2000 rpm and get some real information.

Most likely a combination of the wrong weight oil and to low and idle. while you have the scanner find out why it will not idle.

And Yes, I have seen rod and main bearings wipped out in a lot less the 20k miles, if it was not macined or assembled correctly, there are a lot of people that with throw rods and mains in right out of the box without plasticgauging them.

 

problem solved I believe, for now. 5w30 is gone and I cleaned out the throttle body and idle sensor, and it is now idling at 750 when warm. Oil pressure is good. I am going to install an oil pressure gauge to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the help.
