Default Low speed vibration/shudder

Ive got an 03 d2 with about 4" of lift and 32" tires. Driveshaft has been rebuilt with greasable ujoints. Recently I've been getting a strong vibration/shudder when coming to a stop (around 5-10 mph). It happens even when I let off the brakes and just coast. If I give it gas, the shudder goes away. No vibration at higher speeds. Any ideas?

Could be your flex coupling on the rear drive shaft, did you check that?

I looked at it briefly, but I guess I'll remove it and make sure there are no cracks. Thanks.

You don't have to remove it, just look for vertical cracks between the 6 bolts with threads showing.
With a 4" lift, have you done a castor correction to reset the pinion angle? Also possible loose front flange on the t/case.

pix of flex coupling. Just one more problem child for those who dream of a 500 hp Chevy transplant.

Sounds like possibly sticking calipers.
When you get the shudder and accelerate to get rid of it, does it come back as you slow, even when you haven't touched the brakes?

Rotoflex looks ok with very minimal superficial looking cracks.

@ DiscoMike: I have not installed castor corrected radius arms yet. Aside from the steering not returning to center, could that cause a low speed vibration? I'll check the front flange on the t-case and report back.

@ antichrist: I dont think it has to do with the brakes. It happens even when I coast into the 5-10 mph zone. It also happens in reverse and when in neutral.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Any answers on this? I'm having the same issue, but I don't have a lift kit, and it only started after a long road trip.

Sounds like a universal joint starting to fail. The only real way to tell is to remove the driveshaft(s) and check the joints by hand.

If front drive shaft is oem, and does not have grease fitting on each U-joint it is prime candidate to snap and knock hole in transmission. Flex coupling is in pix below.
