Does anyone run the lower plastic engine cover on their Disco? Does anyone even know there should be a lower engine cover? Does anyone even care?

 

Are we talking 03-04 lower drip pan with the removable oil filter access panel?

Back when 03-04's were new sure I had both my 03 D2 drip pans. Then the little round access panel either fell out or broke, and then yep I ripped em clean off after they got brittle from the heat or broke.

None of my 99-02's have em and I find it much easier to work on vs an 03-04 that do.

I love it when I come across an 03-04 D2 owner and they tell me how their rover's never leak. I look under it and see the drip pan and just smile as they're totally clueless to their LR wearing an adult diaper.

I forgot that thing even existed. Tossed it after my first oil change

 

It might look and sound useless but it assists in keeping the engine cooler and avoid the air loss from the viscous fan. It probably amounts to between 5-10% of the cooling effect.

 

I did. I do. And I only care because I have a few I'd like to sell.

 

That's interesting; didn't know that. Still, I haven't had any issues since removing mine.

 

Agree. My lower cover is installed as of yesterday and ScanGauge shows a few degrees cooler temps across the board. I can see some minor annoyance when changing the oil filter in the future but I plan to leave my cover installed.

 

I have had mine out for a few years. But thinking of putting it back in to see if it would reduce the amount of dust kick-up into the engine bay during off-roading.

 

I wish mine was still installed when I bought the vehicle. If I could find one for cheap enough I would certainly install it after I changed the oil pan gasket.
