Default LR says need new cat converter

I have a check engine light took to dealer said error code bad cat converter , I do have egg smell 83200 miles I am original owner did new plugs n wires , pump hoses manifold gasket, had antifreeze leak leak cause repair shop did not attach hose to water pump popped off so I know antifreeze leaked into cat.

I do not want to put money into this car I never drive it , what would you guys recommend. The car drives fine , but I do not want to break down.

It is sitting at dealership, they are going to call me with details n price to fix

Buy a cat and put it in. Simple. If you don't drive it, still, fix it, then sell it?

Just take it somewhere else, not the dealership. Cats are fairly easy to install, should be a cheap install, or you could get universal cats and have an exhaust shop cut/weld them in.

Does anyone recommend a place to purchase cat converter, I have a mechanic to put in for me and I guess I should replace o2 sensors while I am at it. So I just have to order correct parts, I am sure land rover will list parts n labor on quote. I have two offers for vehicle - one from dealer mechanic 5000 n one from another mechanic 5500.00 I told them I will just park it for that. Thanks for the reply

I've always bought replacement / aftermarket cats from Online performance and OE car parts site Performance-Curve.com - Home.

They have everything from 50-state CARB-legal OBD-II replacement cats, to high-performance spun cats.

Most any universal cat will work in this application however-- some custom welding will be required at your local exhaust shop, but we're talking $150-200 for the job vs. $5,000.

I've used the high performance cats, and they can sometimes throw a code for CAT efficiency. I'd stick with the universal ones that are intended to be replacements for OEM units.

If you live somewhere without aircare testing, then just leave it. If you need your truck to pass an airfare/smog inspection test then get it fixed.

FYI, I did both cats last year for $100 and paid about $150 for the install. They've been great.

Also another big FYI, keep your LR cats, they are worth big money. The factory cats have precious metals that are worth big bucks to a scrap yard.
I sold my old cats on ebay— scrap $300 for both.

I've used Catco 6905's with good outcome in the past. They're about $90 at Summit Racing. It's been awhile since I purchased a pair but I seem to recall they came in two different lengths, 12" and 14". There might be a suffix differentiating the two.

I don't know if they are CARB certified (probably not for the price) but if you're in a state that isn't too stringent, they'll work just fine. You can use them on either side. They will fit. The 12" version is probably best for any OBDII truck like the DII so it allows plenty of room for you to keep the upstream and downstream O2 bungs.

FYI: I just sold my factory cats to SCRAP, Inc (I found the company online) for $376.

I'm in no way affiliated with them just sharing my experience. Very easy to deal with and super fast processing. I had my check in three days. Very legit.
