LT230 + 2004 Shifter Problem Solved
So, the issue that wouldn't let me shift has been solved.
Some background. Bought a 2003 without knowing it didn't have a CDL, bought a LT230 off a 2001 and installed it, installed the 2004 cable actuated linkage from Expedition Exchange, could lock up but could not shift high-low.
Turns out that in 2001 the lockout solenoid is in the transfer case.
For 2004 the lockout solenoid is in the shifter lever.
For 2003 there is only one header on the harness to connect a lockout solenoid to.
When I found the 2nd solenoid connection (the dealer swapped cases for me as part of another deal so I had not seen the wiring) I put a 12v source on it and then voila I could shift. I did try to get the solenoid out of the transfer case but even after spending an hour and a half getting those bloody bolts holding the cap on out I could not free up the cap no matter what I tried. The proper fix is probably to remove the solenoid from the shifter, but for a temporary fix I'm going to splice together the two solenoid leads so that they both unlock. I've had the console on and off about 20 times this year and I'm a bit weary about doing it again right now.
We need a wiki with this kind of information.

Taking a shot in the dark here... Haveyou come across any info in regards to a LT 230 swap into a range rover classic. I have heard this has been done, however, I can't find a write-up about on the net.
The RR classic has viscous coupler in that is the biggest pile of sh#@ I have ever taken off road. Needless to say now it is totally locked up and I have my front drive shaft removed just so I can drive it until I can figure out what I need to do for the swap.
Sorry for the rant.

Yes, there are a few good pages on the Borg Warner to LT230 swap. I think you want a D1 case which is much easier to get since you need the mechanical speedo. Just google for Borg Warner to LT230 and you'll get tons of hits.
So splicing the two solenoid leads together has both working as expected. Yay.
