M + S AND "D" Flashing....

M + S AND "D" Flashing....
Preliminaries......'02 Disco - 115K, trans fluid checked about 10K ago, level was good, it was nice and clean. No symptoms leading up to this point.
Did a search, but still wanted to ask... M + S lights started flashing on the wife this morning as she started driving away. In addition once the truck was put into drive the "D" started flashing. I searched real quick before leaving for work, but didn't have too much time to browse for answers.
It seems the #1 contributor to this issue is battery, so I pulled it before I left and will get it checked/replaced at lunchtime. (....then the alternator, the XYZ switch, fluid, filter...)
MY QUESTIONS : Does the flashing "D" in addition to the flashing M + S lights indicate anything different than the normal issues? The lights went off when I started it up and pulled it in the garage before I left for work, will the codes still show up on an OBII scan later?
Thanks in advance for your help, let me know if there's anything else I missed that I can check for later....

I am willing to bet that it was just a weird electrical anomoly since I believe it is related to the traction control. If they went away then I would just continue to drive until they go out. On my 99 I just bought they were on for about 5 minutes then they went away and have never shown back up, it did not log a code either so I have not worried about it.
What have you found out now that you are home?

Problem solved!
Voltage on the old battery read 12.5 A, I think I saw an old post where the threshold was around 13 A before the transmission started feeling the effects. New Interstate Battery in, seems to have been the cure! I'll be getting my alternator check, and changing my fluid + filter as soon as my non stripped (doh!) drain plug comes in. Thanks for the input, I was worried it was going to be something much worse! Hopefully this helps out the next guy!

This may be a dumb question but my transmission filter was replaced at 30k and the manual says that is the only time it needs to be done. Anyone know why this is? I know everyone says to do it, you don't have to reiterate that. Just wondering if anyone knows the rationale...
Also- just put in a new durlast gold tonight.

I think the theory behind it is that since it is new it will have some immediate wear during the first 30K that the contaminants should be removed. Plus there is also some left over manufacturing residue on there. I say that they are so cheap you can do it every 30-60K and be very happy. There cannot be anything wrong in always having clean fluid.
