Boy, this must be frustrating. I had the M&S start flashing on mine last year and I opened it up, cleaned the contacts and reinstalled it and it worked great. Until the reverse lights stopped coming on. The dash indicator showed R but no lights. But no codes either. I just pulled the switch apart again today and there was some melted plastic covering part of the reverse contact which I cleaned up and now it works great again. But the process is pretty clear in my head and there is only one way to install the switch. It indexes on a flat on the shaft and the aluminum side faces the transmission body. It can only be installed one way. Once installed, it is pretty close to where it needs to be to function correctly. On mine, getting neutral to show was the tricky one. I set the selector in neutral and had someone watch the dash indicator while I adjusted the switch. Once the N popped up, I tightened the bolts and it works great.

Something that you can try is testing for +12V at the outputs of the XYZ switch while you move it through the gears. Are you any good at reading circuit diagrams? In the RAVE manual, there is a pretty thorough description of the function of the XYZ switch, the outputs for each gear and the input pin numbers for the EAT ECU at the start of the Automatic Transmission section. Using that and the circuit diagrams, you can figure out the color of each wire going to each contact in the switch then test them for +12V when they are supposed to be showing it. It's easier than it sounds. I went through this partially to figure out what was up with my switch. I figured it was a wiring problem because my dash indicator was working and there were no codes but my reverse lights were out. Apparently, the dash indicator is triggered only by the X contact while the lights are triggered by a separate reverse contact in the switch. If you need some help sorting out the diagrams, PM me and I'll get the wire colors for you.

I cant read electrical diagrams
A local Rover guy put it on his computer after the 2nd switch and said the xzy was not sending any signal at all. After the 3rd switch and same exact error, I would guess he is right.

Here's a question for Paul Grant if he reads this, or for anyone else who can help. How do you test XYZs?

You can test them in the truck at connector C0724 under the console. Find the Blue/Black (UB), Blue/White (UW), Blue/Purple (UP), and Blue/Green (UG) wires. With the key on, in Park, there should be +12V at the UP wire. In Reverse, there should be +12V at the UB wire. In Neutral, there should be +12V at the UP, UB and UG wires. In Drive, there should be +12V at the UP, UG and UW wires. In Third, there should be +12V at the UB, UG and UW wires. In Second, there should be +12V at the UW wire. In First, there should be +12V at the UG wire. There should also be +12V at the green/brown wire at connector C0668 under the console when the shifter is in reverse.

Thank you! I am walking away for a few days to regroup and then I'll get after it!
Is their a pic of connector C0724 in the RAVE?

There should be if you take time/effort to download suggested manuals.

I wonder if Paul has ever seen this before?

OK, I see all the electrical diagrams but I just don't see something that says where to look for the connector once the center console is removed. Maybe its obvious once you do pull it apart.

There are two electrical manuals. Discovery II Electical Circuits includes circuit diagrams. Discovery II Electrical Library shows connectors. Do you have both?

Here's the pic of C0724. The view is front to back. The yellow box under the subject connector is the SRS control unit. The black bracket behind the connector is where the two screws at the bottom of the console cubby mount.
