Default M+S Lights....Help!

Ok! I have read every post regarding this, but non seem to have the same issue I an having.

1. Only get the M+S lights flashing in R and N
2. Can shift to D without stopping in R or N with no problem
3. If realy cold I can somtime use R without the lights coming on and flashing
4. After reversing and lights flashing I can reset by turning ignition of and if I go straight to D I am good to go
5. This is driving me nuts that I have to stop and shut off the ignition every time after reversing just so I can shift to D without the lights flashing

This does trip the Service Engine Soon Lamp. If I get three sucessfull shifts from Drive to Reverse it will go off until the M+S lights flash again.

You need to go and have your battery and alternator tested, one of them is failing.

Would the battery or alt cause it to only do it in R and N? Or would it be a switch?

It could be the XYZ (yes that is its actual name) switch, but start with the simple/free stuff first.

Just had this happen over the course of a year until my truck finally went into limp home mode and stayed there.

Although your symptoms are just like mine, do as Spike said and get the battery/alternator checked at Advance or the like.

If they test good, try the XYZ switch. They're $80 or so used from Roverland parts and $200 new from Atlantic British.

They aren't too tough to swap out.
