Default MAF Install Woes

I just replaed my MAF that was throwing codes and showing classic signs of being out.

However, the problem continues. Does the truck need to "learn" that a new MAF is in or do I need to reset the computer?

Hell, does it even need to do either?

Please respond. I am having a hard time without my daily driver. I'm very discouraged presently.

The only way for you to reset the computer is to drive it. Otherwise the dealer can do it with their computer, and of course they will charge you.

I just pulled 12 codes.

P0103
P1590
P1300
P0303
P0305
P1884
P0300 (PENDING)
P0303 (PENDING)
P0305 (PENDING)
P0307 (PENDING)
P0171 (PENDING)
P0174 (PENDING)

I cleared the codes and drove it around. It still drives like garbage. The only code it's throwing now is:

P1590 (PENDING)

/sigh

How could this truck have so many things go wrong at once?

Don't look at driving to help with the codes. For the MAF go get the codes cleared, for all the rest which are misfire codes.
How many miles on your truck, when was it last tuned?
The 1590 won't go away untill the Trio is repaired.

Again, the 3 lights are not on. The TC light comes on when it engages and it stays on.

The truck has 82k miles. The plugs/wires were replaced at 70k miles (when I got it) as well as a full maintenance schedule done by myself.

I cleared ALL the codes but the 1590. It isn't showing anything now and I've put about 10 miles on it since said clear.

My last guess is that the sock on the fuel pump is clogged with trash or the pump is on its way out. The pump does make a whining sound, however it has since I bought it and figured they were just loud. I haven't even thought of a pump issue until now.

Does anyone have a link as to how to get to the rear access hatch? Is it easier to drop the tank instead?

I'm going to rent a pressure tester tomorrow and see if that has something to do it with before I tear into the tank. But, I'm fearing that it is the case.

Thanks for the posts.

No it is not easier to drop the fuel tank.
Open the cargo door, remove the trim piece, roll up the carpet, open the hatch.
That simple.

That sounds so much easier than any other vehicle I've dealt with

JMT,
Your fuel sock is not causing this issue.
So, today, do you have a light on, how is it running?
Even though the Trio may not be showing, you have some lurking codes in the ABS section of your ECU and they do need to be read and cleared, then go clear the 1590 which is currently retarding your timing.

Mike,

I haven't been driving it.

The TC light is on and I imagine it's running the same as it has been :: hesitant up and around 2k+ RPM, bogging down at the shift points, drowning out at WOT. All of this ONLY happens when it's under a load (ie: driving). I can rev and hold it at 3-4k RPMs while it's in park with no problem. It responds, etc. just like it should.

The only code it's throwing is 1590. I checked it 3 different times last night.

I fail to see how an ABS sensor is retarding my timing. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it isn't logical to me at present. Also, there is no way retarded timing could cause this behavior.

I am clearing it with a generic OBDII. It appears to clear it since reading right after an erase will pull no codes. Does this HAVE to be cleared by a LR Computer? It's about $100 here and clearing it without me being sure is a toss of $100.

Thanks for the help. I'll see if I can't get a video of it driving under load.

Here is a thought, have you checked the transmission fluid level? Low on fluid can cause shift problems.
I am starting to think that it is not engine related.
