Default Magic Sunroof Fix? LOL

Ok, since I have owned my Disco II, the front sunroof hasn't worked or at least very limited. Would open or close maybe a quarter of an inch and then get stuck.

Read on the forum we can manually close it via the access hole in the headliner.
It was "stuck" open a quarter of an inch an was gonna rain so I used an allen wrench to close it.
It took tremendous force to close it (was afraid something was gonna break) but got it closed.
No big deal out of sight out of mind as usual, till I hit the button by accident a couple of days latter.
I'll be damned, it open right up!
Been working great since
Lubed everything up with white lith, hope it continues to work.
maybe same procedure will work for someone else.
Go figure.

Regards,
Nick

I agree, seems like luck is the driving force on this fix.

Has this happen to anyone else?

Curious...

Nick

You may want to use some other grease than white lithium, maybe a synthetic grease. White lithium attacks dust and gets anything its on very messy. Just FYI.

I had trouble with my back sunroof sticking when I went to open it.
I finally just had it open and cleaned the area around the opening and also cleaned the rubber casket and used a silicon spray to soften it up.
Once I did all this the rear sunroof now opens and closes at the push of a button.
I think with all the crap that collects on top of the truck and the constant beating of the sun, it will just get very dirty and stick.

Hey, yeah you were lucky.
I have a '96 disco and that rear sunroof is close for good. I was happly driving down the road with the sunroofs open and when I went back home and try to close them the rear one didn't do it. So after an hour I decided to close that thing forever, I had to take the glass out and something was wrong with the rails, I didn't mess much with it and now I hope never try to get it working again. Just another small issue my lovely disco has.

I feel for you ! If mine didn't start working, don't think I would have taken the headliner out to fix it.
Sunroofs are nice but not worth that much effort, at least to me.

Nick
