Mercon V synthetic ATF?
ORIGINAL: meltdowndave
I just noticed Mike's recommendation to someoneabout picking up Mercon 4 for a tranny fluid change.
I've alreadybought up the local Advance's stock of Mobile 1 Mercon 5 synthetic.
I'm not fully versed in the nuances of the differences between the two.
Can anyone advise if this stuff is ok to use?
Danka.

Dexron II is no longer made it was replaced by Dexron III and that is no longer made.
About that time Dodge came out with their one ATF 7176 (ATF+4).
Then Dexron III was replaced with Mercon then it was replace with Mercon V.
You can use Mercon V but not the ATF+4 (7176).
I have changed my transmission to the Mobil One Mercon V little by little by draining it and refilling it with the 4 1/2 qts each time.
I started this at 85000 miles and now have over 115000 with no problems.
The BMW transmission is a good one but for the parking pin.
