Update-

Put the exhaust manifold bolts back on the passenger side(they were missing). Car seems to run better, but still mis firing and throwing the codes.

My friend(Not a mechanic, but super knowledgable) says he feels like it is a CAT/O2 issue.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I'm sure you are 100% correct on the firing order...
so, when you changed the plugs and wires, what did the plugs look like.
you are not throwing o2 codes?

Hi Dusty, when I saw your name I was sure you were going to say, "meh, probably a fuse!".

Yeah, triple checked the order. No O2 codes. Plugs on cylinders mis firing were black and oily looking.

If that oil leak is bad enough it may be getting on the crank sensor and causing this.

A lot of signs are pointing to the CPS. I have not sought it out, is the CPS on the driver or passenger side?

I might have to bring to a local, well priced rover mechanic. I have reserved a slot for Thursday next week if I cannot resolve this issue over the weekend.

Any other tips?

Update-

Looks like the the oil seals in the heads were leaking bad causing oil to leak into the combustion chamber causing the misfires. Also pushing oil out the SAI on the drivers side(I think). Does this sound possible?

Mechanic is taking the heads off today to see if the block is OK.

If so, he is doing the heads, if not Im dropping a 110K mile 4.0 in it and calling it a day.

Update 2- Head gasket had a section blown away. Oil was being sucked in on the intake stroke and causing the misfire and oil spillage. Headwork should be done by tomorrow.

Did the head work fix the codes? I just bought a very well maintained 03 D2 with 121K and after Seafoam treatment, it ran for day then SES came on showed misfires on 5 and 8 and running rough. Also, as previously stated, the SES light stays on for a moment then blinks.
Took it to a local European mechanic to have him do a tune up with coils, wires and plugs, but still misfiring on 5 and 8 cylinders.
Any other ideas?
