Default Mixing oil weight

Hey all,
Today I am doing some maintenance before the winter and one thing on my list is an oil change. My question is, does it matter if you mix different oil weights if it is the same brand and type of oil. I use high mileage mobile 1 5w-40 in my Silverado work truck but I always use high mileage mobile 1 10w-40 in my Discovery because I like the better engine protection it gives. That being said, since its getting to be winter I was thinking of mixing half and half in the Rover. It doesnt get down to the single digits to to often here in NJ so I don't want to go all 5w-40. Any thoughts. I've been told that if you mix them you kind of get somewhere in the middle but I wanted to check with you guys to make sure.

Yeah thats fine, you can do it, but how do you know the correct ratio to get the bottom number you want?
They are both 40 weight oils when hot, you will be fine using the 10w-40 in your Rover even in the winter.

Thanks spike. I was going to go 3 qts each to get somewhere in the middle. However, if you say that it's ok with the 10w-40 in the winter then I will prob just go that route.

Default You'll be good

Its not going to make that much of a difference... Unless you live in the Arctic or the equator, all oils will pretty much do the job under 99% of conditions the average driver is likely to encounter. I know some on here will debate this, but it's the truth...

Its funny, thas something I alway thought about because I do also live in NJ. I decided on 5w40 the for the added piece of mind. Once april rolls around, i'll switch back to 15w40
