My question is how many MAFs?

 

The MAF myth strikes again! We run a K&N in our personal D1 Disco (150k+ and still running strong) and we have never had to replace a MAF. Neither did the DATW Discos as far as I know. K&N produced some informational videos specifically around the MAF myth:

For what it's worth, we've read in these pages severalpersonal accounts from people who have installed a K&N air filter and within a matter of days have had to replace their MAF sensor. The problem has been mostly limited to vehicles equipped with the Bosch fuel injection systems, with GEMS systems being relatively unaffected. Your D1 has a GEMS system, correct?

Edit: I'll retract my words. I'm satisfied with the level of testing that K&N appears to have done with mass airflow sensors. I cannot explain the phenomena of people running into problems with their MAFs with K&N filters installed, nor can I validate that it's happening with my own eyes,but itwould seem that the oil isn't the culprit based on the tests.

Interesting discussion.I always thought this topic was ironic since there is a big K&N Filter ad at the top of the page most of the time.
