Jupiter, You seem to know goo bit about oil. So I am safe using the second most expensive oil on island? The Valvoline full synthetic is the only other brand i would get and i think its $9 something a quart too. I dont want to mix brands though just to save a few bucks. Right?

I'm on oil forums a lot. so I pick a few things up here and there.

For your next oil change I would go with a Xw40 weight. That way you are sure you are getting an oil with a high HTHS (High Temperature High Sheer). That 10w30 EP is fine though. How often do you change your oil?

Another real good oil is Rotella 5w40 synthetic. It is real cheap here in the states. Keep an open mind, Price doesn't Always determine quality. For instance Castrol EDGE is top dollar and no better than regular Mobil 1, which is much cheaper.

If you have any questions on oil or what you should used based on what is available for you just ask.

Yeah I am planning to go 10w40 on my next change. I have had my Disco since Aug 2008 and according to my maintenance log I have changed oil + Filter on....

8-18-2008 @ 57,500 miles I think I used Valvoline high mileage 10w30 just for the extra additives.
1-1-2009 @ 60,541 miles switched to Mobil 1 10w30 EP

(Car sat for almost all of March while I did the CDL Kit replaced some gaskets and installed oil gauge and some of May)

6-27-09 63,350 (this weekend) will switch to 10w40 Mobil 1

should i wait a little longer? whats a good mileage interval? I would hate to dump $70 every 3/mo 3k miles. But I'll do anything to keep this engine in top condition.

If you Really want to get the Most out of your oil and take it to its limits then I would do 7500 miles then get a UOA sample of the oil. The lab will tell you how well your oil is doing and if you can extend the drain interval or if you have to make it shorter.

The main reason Rover owners suggest a 3000 mile interval is because the rover engines run "rich" aka fuel dilution, which the lab tests.

Here is what you do, you are at 63,change now, at 65,xxx miles change the oil and filter, then at 70,xxx change it again.
Dont worry about the ,xxx miles, just everytime there is a "0" or a "5" third place from the left change the oil and filter.
Do not worry about the 100's of miles, this time you change it at 65,256... next time you change it at 70,120.
The hundreds dont matter much, but the thousands do.
Every 3,000 miles with full syn is a waste of money, if I were to go back to every 3k I would swithc to diesel oil, cheap and almost as good as full syn.
Over the road semi's 15-40 Sheel Rotella or 15w-40 Mobil Delvac and they go as much as 30,000 miles on one oil change, but keep in mind that they take 45-50 quarts of oil and have 2 oil filters the size of 2L pop bottles.

an interesting note...my rover mechanic does not like synthetic motor oil....thinks it leads to additional leakage....in contrast, he runs syn through all of the differentials, etc.

My truck was a one owner when I bought it, it was always serviced at the dealer, it had 152, change when I bought it.
I switched change the oil and put in diesel oil, at 155,change I changed it and switched to Mobil 1, you would have thoght that I was draining spegetti after I switched to full syn.
But after 2 oil changes the leaks stopped, now she does not leak a drop, I bought my truck April '07 and have used Mobil 1 ever since 155,change.

Not yet. For the last year or so I have been trying to get rid of oil leaks via extended warranty. They kept having to change the oil pan seal. Every time they did that I started with fresh oil. No sense testing an oil with low miles. Anyways, the leak was finally fixed. Had to change the rear main seal and the crucifix seal. So, in 6 months or so I will be taking a sample.

I'd like to know what they find
