Question Mod'ing or Inverting the Spare Carrier

I have heard guys say they inverted or mod'd their spare tire carrier to fit a larger tire without having to buy a kit from someone. I have searched on here and discoweb under every word(s) I can think of but haven't found a how-to or somebody's write-up.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or some instruction?

Thanks-

I did this on my 99 disco and I don't think I got any more clearance. I put a 33" tire on mine and it rubs the bumper just as bad as it did before. But I could have given enough clearance for a smaller tire to fit better. If Mike doesn't walk you through it, which I'm positive it can, send me a pm and I will give you all the steps to take.

I did it and it does give extra clearance. You have to cut the carrier to allow the wiper to clear, but other than that it was a simple mod. if you are mechanically inclined, you'll figure it out no problem once you get into it.

Got it - I figured it was probably pretty easy and way cheaper than buying a plate or something.

Thanks guys-

You don't have to cut/notch the tire carrier for the wiper arm; you can also just pull the wiper arm off and put it back on slightly repositioned so that it clears the tire carrier. It won't retract all the way down like before, but it will actually wipe more of the visible portion of the rear window. It's just a matter of preference.

Wow thats a great idea thanks Disco_Fever; I can see how this would probably work better and actually wipe more of the window.

Thanks-
