Inverting inexpensive roof rack for clearance and size
I have had this roof rack through 3 Dico's now and I wanted to either get a new one with better clearance or rebuild this one. Being cheap, I decided to to go with the latter.
I have daughters that live out of State and have to pick them up from the airport often a well as work in major metropolitan areas, that often require me to park in garages, thus the reason for clearance.
I originally bought this used down at the cape for $100.00. It has served it purpose well.
Here are some original pics on the other LR's (Below)
I removed and/or cut off the leg supports and then measured about 100 times for clearance of both the garage and clearance for the two sunroofs. I then added a steel panel to the front of the rack for complete coverage of the top of the roof, adding another 2 feet. The additional rack was made from an old shelving unit that I had built years ago for my kitchen at the time.
The clearance is exactly 81 1/2" with the tires at maximum pressure. The rear sunroof has a 1/2 clearance from the rack itself. I used Permatex under- carriage coating on the entire rack.

Do you have any idea if the rack would fit my 2002 Land Rover Disvoery II? How much were you willing to sell it for? My email: ChasWelte.MDHS@gmail.com
bahbahhbahh ...Sorry no way will I sell that darn thing! It took me a couple of weeks alone to cut it up, engineer it and put it all back together.
One that will fits yours was not to long ago, for sale on either this site or LandRoverOnly. The guy wanted $800.00. It was the nice one.
Mine, when it was new, was a screw together job.. real cheap. I'm not even sure where it came from originally. Rover North and other outfits like that have them as well.
Thanks for flattering me by asking, think I might go into the Roof and snorkel building business.
