I saw that in the write up for that procedure. I'm don't think I'm going that route because the bolts are already in and set and would have to be removed, drilled, the holes threads cleaned, bolt coated and reinstalled, then wired.
I know about the 1oz of prevention thing but sometimes one has to stop and call enough "enough" I guess.
If I had holed bolts, I would have used them as I have the stainless wire and twister pliers.

I already have the .040" Cometic gaskets and will stick with them.

The total material removed was .016".
The headgasket removed was:
.048" -fire ring between cylinders
.053" -composite crushed
.058" -composite non-crushed
So .016" + .008" (difference between the OE HG and the .040" MLS HG) = .024" difference.
If .010"= .5:1 (added to or subtracted from the current compression ratio) then I've added .124 the compression ratio.
The stock compression ratio is 9.35:1 but I see the machine shop wrote 9.37:1 on the block. Not sure if that was what they measured or found..?

Either way, +.124 isn't much to add.

This is also not taking into consideration the difference between the bores of the headgaskets:
Composite: 96.08mm (3.7525")
vs
MLS 94.21mm (3.7085")
I'll probably pick some additional ratio points up there too.
Maybe someone good with lots of formulas & #'s can figure out the new compression ratio, but I'm sticking with the .040" Cometic MLS gaskets.
I'm guessing it'll be close to 9.5x:1?

when you skimmed the block and heads you raised the compression, so now your going to use a thicker head gasket to lower it back down? why? you have to run high test anyway.

I'm not sure where you got the assumption I was going to lower it back down? The rest of you'd thoughts are mine exactly.

your Cometic gasket is thicker than a stock land rover gasket, isn't it? or did i read wrong.
if it is thicker, then it is going to allow more gap between the head and the block, dropping compression over a stock gasket No?

I believe you read wrong. The cometic gasket is thinner and the bore opening is smaller.
All of which combined with the material removed from the motor increase compression ratio.

The difference is less than the thickness of a credit card.
Nearly inconsequential in this particular scenario.
