i want to repeat that if the problem is slipped sleeves, you don't necessarily have to replace the motor. there are a couple places in the US that manufacture top hat sleeves and most machine shops can install them. it's a money saver.

i looked into having a new sleeve put in my motor. All but one machine shop in Seattle would not touch it. The one that said they would "give it a shot" also said they would not warrantee any of the work. If you in that deep, do the job right and rebuild the motor. The big reason I went with the rebuilt motor was the flanged sleeves and a warrantee. Reading up on Turner, they look like a good company.

the top hat sleeves are also flanged at the top to prevent sleeve slippage and at a significant savings than buying another rebuilt motor and all the shipping from england. my point is if cost is important there are few companies that make the top hat sleeves.

i've talked to Mark at D&D Fabrications and he will walk a machine shop through the process. also there is LA Sleeve that makes the top hat sleeves.

i've seen on the forums that people say there is no replacing the sleeves and that is not true. just throwing out another option besides buying another engine. especially if the engine in question has low miles.

Here are some pictures of the motor swap. The Turner engine was delivered in three days from England to Seattle. It was a fun project even if it was just an academic exercise.

My Disco is an 04 and out of the vin range. The mechanic that diagnosed my slipped sleeve assumed it was the sleeve with out checking the head gasket. A second opinion is always a good idea. Bad move by me!

in the end, if you're happy with what you've done, then great. i'm sure it feels good knowing you've got a reputable company rebuilding a motor for you. shouldn't have to worry for a while now.

How long did it take to swap out the motor? Had you ever done it before? Thanks,
