Default Motor torque question.

For a head job, on the 4.0 rover engine. For the head bolts and torque-ing them down. What size ratchet drive is most commonly used?

Should I pick up a 3/8" or a 1/2" drive torque wrench?

Also I found the odd rocker cover bolts that need a special socket. Any heads up for any more suprises like that? I am pulling heads and oil pump.
Thanks and have a great weekend, weather is nice.

P.S., it's ripped down to the intake manifold now.

Use the 1/2 torque wrench, Rocker cover bolts use an 8MM 12pt Socket.

Do you mean just the impact socket to use on the torque wrench? For the 2 90* turns after the initial torque.

I have never done this on an aluminum block.
I do have the rave.
Parts will be from who offers the lowest price, probably on of the Ab sites or the guy in your siggy.

Plan right now is the top end gasket set, hose set, oil and water pump gaskets. Rest of the stuff I want to inspect before commiting to, like the cam, cats, O2 pump etc.

OTC 4554 (or similar)

As for a torque wrench, 3/8" is fine (in the right torque range) for the head bolt initial torque. And for the exhaust manifold's, etc. But you may find a 1/2 more useful later on for other things.

the head bolts are a very low number so you need a 3/8 but it pays to have a cheater bar and a long half inch socket and wrench to do the job.

the crankshaft bolt is 250lbs that is the one you need for the 1/2 inch torque wrench for.

You do have to pull the oil pan to get the timing cover off and you need to pull off the front steering bar out of the way and raise the vehicle to get it out. other wise the rear bar comes off and it needs to get torched out.
