Default Moving a DII overseas safely

I'm moving to a "poor" country and the movers partner here wants to use a Forklift to take Splat out of the container because they don't have a proper loading dock.. .. my question is .. will putting a fork lift on the axles hurt the car .. thanks . .

The first thing I think of when someone says forklifting a car/ suv is picking it from the side. You would need some long extensions to lift it with a single forklift from the front or back. I'd be weary of picking it from the side unless you put some wood on the frame to keep the forks off the body or drivetrain and to spread the load on the frame.

I dinged my frame by the passenger side catalytic converter with a jack stand. The driver's side was fine. I think the bigger cat might weaken the frame right there since it's tight and a big, fairly flat heat source on the frame rail. Luckily that isn't an issue anymore haha.

Good luck expat!

The axles can support the vehicle without damaging them.

I would be worried that Splat (guessing that is your car's name) would go Splat and they'd drop it. IDK, I'd avoid this like the plague!

Can you pack some large planks in the container with your truck so they could drive it out?

I don't understand why they want to forklift it. I have had my '04 Disco since 2007. Purchased from the original owner, I took it to Chisinau, Moldova (a work transfer) and drove it all over Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania. I transferred to Lilongwe, Malawi (SE Africa) and overlanded across Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, many (many) safaris and camping in Zambia. Then transferred to Jerusalem - we camped on the beach, in the desert, in the north and the south of Israel, road tripped through Jordan, Wadi Rum, Petra, etc. Then shipped it to norther Minnesota because of my next assignment had age restrictions on importing vehicles. All this to say that mine has been shipped, literally, all over the world and has never been forklifted.

Can they build a ramp for it? Based on the pic, I would not trust their forklift...

Mike

Wow.

Where are you now? I understand the Rover is in Minnesota, but how about you?

They used a Catipiller loader with 20 ft. forks to lift my old 2001 off the trailer at junkyard, came right in from behind, forks were under axles, lift and away it went...easy-peasy.
