Moving a DII overseas safely
I'm moving to a "poor" country and the movers partner here wants to use a Forklift to take Splat out of the container because they don't have a proper loading dock.. .. my question is .. will putting a fork lift on the axles hurt the car .. thanks . .
I dinged my frame by the passenger side catalytic converter with a jack stand. The driver's side was fine. I think the bigger cat might weaken the frame right there since it's tight and a big, fairly flat heat source on the frame rail. Luckily that isn't an issue anymore haha.
Good luck expat!
I don't understand why they want to forklift it. I have had my '04 Disco since 2007. Purchased from the original owner, I took it to Chisinau, Moldova (a work transfer) and drove it all over Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania. I transferred to Lilongwe, Malawi (SE Africa) and overlanded across Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, many (many) safaris and camping in Zambia. Then transferred to Jerusalem - we camped on the beach, in the desert, in the north and the south of Israel, road tripped through Jordan, Wadi Rum, Petra, etc. Then shipped it to norther Minnesota because of my next assignment had age restrictions on importing vehicles. All this to say that mine has been shipped, literally, all over the world and has never been forklifted.
Can they build a ramp for it? Based on the pic, I would not trust their forklift...
