multiple atempts before starting
hi all, I recently purchased a 97 disco an noticed that it takes several cranks to start , sometimes 10 or more atempts (breaks in between each atempt so not to kill starter or NEW battery) replaced plugs and wires no change. I also hooked up my obd and came up with code p1317 (abs) code p1193 oxygen sensor hearter open downstream . I was guessing the o2 sensor was maybe showing up because of a possible converter problem(maybe getting plugged up) could that also be a problem in starting. Also after starting in the morning it starts fine for 5 or 6 hours then back to the hard starting. I live in southwest arizona cold temps are not an issue even when its in the 80s I have the same problem. Thankyou for any input.
When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter.
Do that next and then after it has sat for a while see if there is any fuel pressure left in the rail, if low, you will need a new fuel pump.

Thanks mike, will give it a try. I was told all filters were just replaced, but I did buy my disco in a small used car lot. would the o2 sensor (code p1193)become a problem being downstream? Hope it is the filter love the easy fix. thanks
No, that is an oxygen heater circuit down stream is out, won't cause what you are describing.
By the way, the gas filter is bolted to the r/r wheel weel are and is hard as hell to replace, will take lots of penatrating oil.

Your O2's are bad but they will not cause hard starting. I think your hard starting is a bad fuel temp sensor. And being in AZ it would be hot longer/more often.

try replacing the hose from the intake to the valve covers i think the air induction hose and putting hose clamps on it mine did the same thing i replaced the fuel filter didnt help so looked up and the possible cause was a vaccum leak that happens when the engine gets warmed up it work start and will turn off at idle or sitting at stop light
