Hey all,

looking for advice to make sure I am ready for Moab this July and looking for any additional advice on mods I might need to make life easier. I have a 99 Disco 2, with 2” lift, 32” BFG KO2, Rear LD, Front LSD, custom front & rear bumpers, 9500lb winch, and some additional mods like sliders, upgraded engine mounts, new terrafirma steering arms, and what not. But wanting to be prepped for the trip. Been out there on ATVs I trailered out but never my disco.

is it worth the cost to go to 3” lift and 33s? I plan on getting MTs for the trip. Do I need to upgrade my front LSD to a LD? What other mods would you recommend? Not interested in doing Hell’s revenge because I’m moderately new to this and am driving from Ohio so I gotta make it home in one piece.

With that setup you could run Hell's Revenge no problem IMHO. TFL took a stock height Suzuki Samurai out there along with their 04 D2 which is setup close to yours and it had no problems.

 

Most importantly do you trust your disco on long road trips ? Have you had it on long road trips ? Unless your trailing there I would do all maintenance and cooling systems 100 %.

yes it’s been on long trips. But this is top on the list. Full once over on all the current components and complete maintenance.

 

That trip is a dream of mine. If you DD your disco and are on top of things.....drive it to Moab. Doesn't matter what vehicle you take new or old, they can all leave you stranded. Sounds to me like you have yours set up good.

 

I posted maybe a week ago about the same thing. I have a D2 with an ARB bumper, winch, rear TF bumper, sliders, 2" lift, and 32" tires. I'm driving mine 1,700 miles across the country to Moab this summer. I ended up going with 3" Rovertym springs, pan hard bar, radius arms, and 33" M/Ts. I'm about to install them.

 

Yes 32s are fine, the biggest thing on most Moab trails is approach and departure angles in my experience. The rear bumper will drag a lot. I don't think I've ever hit diffs and sliders hit a few times. Traction is nuts out there so if it's dry and warm a CDL is plenty fine, a locking rear is nice as insurance if you plan on running hells gate for instance. Also, be warned that Hells Revenge the run out at the end is/was (been a few years since we ran the trail all the way through) significantly more difficult than the rest of the trail (if you don't hit the optional stuff ie escalator, the hot tubs, tip over challenge). I don't think hells gate is wildly difficult but if you take a bad line the consequences can be catastrophic.

Comes down to what trails do you want to run. If you can give more info on that then we can give you a better idea of what you may or may not need out there to make the most of your trip.
