Default My Latest Wild and Crazy Idea

Looking at the front end of my D1 it always annoys me that the lights next to the headlights are turn signal only and not marker lights. I realize that there are "city lights" in the headlights that act as marker lights and a marker on the side of the bumper but it still annoys me. I checked the bulb and socket to make sure that is how they are supposed to be and it is.

So here's my idea. I am going to get a 2 conductor socket that will lock into the light and wire it to be both turn signal and marker light. It shouldn't be that difficult to tap the wire for the marker light in the bumper to make it work.

I'm going to give it a try but I'm curious if anyone has ever done this or even thought about it? Anyone think of a reason that it shouldn't be done that I'm missing?

Thanks. I'll let you know how to works.
Tom

Doing some research I found that the bulb holder from a P38 Rangie will fit the Discovery front signal light and it has 2 contacts for marker light and turn signal. So that is going to be easy. $3.95 for the bulb holder from AB. The problem is finding the plug that plugs into the bulb holder itself. Going to call around town next week and see what I can find. I am trying to make it look factory if at all possible.

I am not very familiar with the D2 so I really don't know if a D2 turn signal would work for my purpose. I assume it would but I just don't know. Are the front turn signals on a D2 also marker lights? The wiring is proving to be the problem. The bulb holder is widely available but there is a plug that plugs into the bulb holder I need to find.

Update - I haven't actually made any progress on this other than finding the parts I need to do it. i found everything at AB and realize it isn't the cheapest source but at least I know I will get the right parts.

The bulb sockets - http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/XBP100190.cfm
Pigtail - http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/8959ABP.cfm

Should work perfectly for what I want to do.
