Not on this planet,we're talking adout insurance companies.

Insurance companies will tell you not to have full coverage on vehicles over 8 years old.
Not mine.
I will get full value of MY truck if it is stolen or totaled in a crash.
They wont buy me a LR4, but they will give me retail of a 1997 DI with 183,500 miles on it which is $4300.

You may have $4300 sitting in your bank account but I dont.

Regardless of whether or not you get the truck back... the fire smell will never go away. I know this from personal experience, trust me it isn't worth it to get the truck back.

Always buy full coverage! Not much more else I can say about that.

Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.

Holy $#!T it's like Halloween in there! They (the shop) should definitely take care of that for you.

Total disaster. Mechanic or his insurance has to pay-up, no questions about it.

The monthly difference between liability and full for my 01 SE was only $23 so I took it. This situation only makes me feel that much better about that decision.

The only time I carry full coverage is when someone else is holding the title. That's been the case for 35 years. I've never made a claim to my insurance company.

You shouldn't need, or want, to involve your insurance company at all.
The garage should cover it all, which sounds like about $12,000 but I'm sure you'll have to sue them to get it.
