My mechanic burned my disco.. omg
I will get full value of MY truck if it is stolen or totaled in a crash.
They wont buy me a LR4, but they will give me retail of a 1997 DI with 183,500 miles on it which is $4300.
You may have $4300 sitting in your bank account but I dont.
Regardless of whether or not you get the truck back... the fire smell will never go away. I know this from personal experience, trust me it isn't worth it to get the truck back.
Always buy full coverage! Not much more else I can say about that.
Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.

i had full coverage on it when i bought it... but its been in the shop for 4 months... i had the optunity to renew the coverage before it went in to the shop, so i figured i'd do plpd untill the car was fixed right.
i'm sorry now, but my car wasnt supposed to be ruined at the repair shop

The only time I carry full coverage is when someone else is holding the title. That's been the case for 35 years. I've never made a claim to my insurance company.
You shouldn't need, or want, to involve your insurance company at all.
The garage should cover it all, which sounds like about $12,000 but I'm sure you'll have to sue them to get it.

I'm warning you Spike, they aren't pretty
Sorry about what happened, OP but it seems to me that it's entirely your mechanic's fault and he should be responsible for it.

They (the shop) should definitely take care of that for you.
