My New Disco I Today!
So I picked up my first Rover today and I'm pumped :buttrock: Always loved the original Disco so pretty cool to have one in garage and soon on a trail or two (or getting groceries/house decor with wife ;-)
Its a 99 green on tan with 108k, seems clean and tidy. There are a few things that are bugging me I'm going to want to immediately address including:
1. Steering - Steering is a bit loose with too much play. Is this some sort of prerequisite for used live axle 4WD trucks - felt it on Land Cruisers I've driven and also Excursion. So what can I do to tighten it up?
2. Suspension - I want to order some shocks and lift springs immediately. The front end stuttered over some bumps and then later I felt the rear step out. Where is the best source for a 3 inch spring lift and good shocks that will make her ride nice?
3. Interior Trim - The little clamps that hold the sun visors in place over your head are both broken so the visors just bounce around. Need these two pieces and assume dealer would be best? Also, need to replace some of the wood trim. Oh, one more - the plastic center console surround for the shifter and and cubby bin is faded and doesn't match the vinyl cap. Will want to replace this at some point. What is the best source for interior trim and wood?
4. Exterior - Wifey will be driving more than me until I get her something else. She needs running boards... Any suggested sources?
5. Jump Seats - Need to add at least 1 if not 2 as it didin't come with.
Any other suggested "must do's".

Congratulations and welcome to the bunch. For your shopping list I will let the experts give you advise. About the steering, there should not be any more play than in any new car. If you are not mechanically inclined take it to an alignment center and they will let you know if everything is tight as it should be.

Congrats man. Welcome to a seriously dysfunctional family (the people on this forum, not the truck). Where's the pics? You can't just tell us you bought a Disco an d not post pics.
1. Check your steering linkages. They may be worn.
2. Old Man Emu or Rovertym Engineering are your best bet for suspension. The HD springs and shocks ride a little rough but are necessary if you're going to add a winch and other heavy accessories. If you don't plan on heavy off road go with a medium duty kit.
3. roverlandparts is a good source for interior parts. They sell used parts but they don't sell junk. For little stuff like the visor clips I would go to the dealer. Those kind of things you'd pay more in shipping than the difference in price at the dealer.
4. Rovers North or Atlantic British sell running boards. I can't recommend either as a good source since my Rover came with running boards and I took them off. The previous owner had damaged them so they were even uglier than normal.
5. I think you can get the parts to add jump seats from roverlandparts or at a junk yard. The jump seats on a D1 fold down out of the side wall and face the center of the truck. Their pretty much useless for any over 3 feet tall.
The first must do is to go through Disco Mike's 60K service list.

Forget the running boards and get rocksliders with nerf bars, then you will both be happy, she can climb in and you will be one step closer to having your trail rig.

1 & 2 are a bit mutually exclusive. When I lifted mine 2 inches, the steering on the highway got much more sensitive.
3. NEVER pay at the stealer. Go to a junk yard either in person or online.
