Default Mysterious Hole??

Hello Fellas,

I have been working on the wifes Discovery 1 1996.

Found this hole. Does'nt look like it is supposed to be there. Hopefully one of you can give me some relief and tell me it is.

Doesnt seem to be loosing any fluids from it. Appears to be the tourqe converter housing. Not sure, again maybe one of you can shed some light.

Thanks,

Jim

Dont worry about it.
See that bigger circle plate with 3 bolts holding it on?
If you remove that ALL of the trucks fluids will come out so dont take that off EVER.

Seriously though, that bigger plate with the 3 bolts is a inspection cover.
There is nothing in there that needs to be covered, pop that off and you will see the torque converter.
It is just empty inside that space.

Spike, I appreciate it. I spotted the hole trying to stop a bunch of oil leaks. Replaced oil cooler hoses, oil pressure sending unit, resealed inpection cover on transfer case etc... and still have leaks. I finally got the socket to tighten the valve covers and a couple of the bolts were hand (loose). Can alot of oil get past the gasket on the covers if loose?

Thanks,

Jim

no problem, btw putty will probably work best since you have to make it stick upside down.

Danny Lee

Not sure if I got all of the leaks stopped yet. I went through heck trying to get an 8mm socket and read on here a 5/16th will work. After waiting two weeks on Sears and after paying for premium shipping I never recieved the 8mm. So, I drove to Sears and bought a 5/16 they had in stock. The bolts to the valve covers were very loose.
I plan on washing the underside and having a look. Gotta bring the inlaws back to the air port tommorrow so I guess I will see. I drained the DEX and flushed the radiator. She runs good. Hopefully the oil leaks are stopped. As always thanks. This community makes working on a landrover a breeze. Thanks everbody. Jim
