Default Mysterious Leak

I have a 00 with 115K on the clock and as I was changing the brakes this last weekend I noticed a leak coming from... I am power washing it this afternoon and will report back. The fluid was oily and clear to a very light brown. The small puddle was under the middle of the truck under a cross member and the differential, I think. Any thoughts would be very appreciated.
Thanks,
Kelly

Well being oily and a clear brown is either engine oil or gear lube.
Rub it between your fingers and see how viscous it is, a heavy thick oil will be gear lube, a light thin oil will be engine oil.

It sounds like gear lube from the transfer case to me from the description of where it is.

In further looking it is coming from the flat plate just above the cross bar. I am assuming this is the transfer case. Is this a fix I can do on my own or do I need to take it in and have it repaired? I am fairly inclined to do most of this stuff as long as it does not take 8 hours. Anything else I should look for or replace while I am there?
