Name this Noise video :(
99 that I just got done replacing the transmission and t-case in. Both went bad out of the blue without any fanfare. Just started driving it , maybe have 75 miles on the rebuild, and out of nowhere comes this noise. Since my other t-case never showed any signs of going I'm not familiar with the sound I'm getting now. I'm hoping it's not a bad unit since I've put hours in taking it out, then realizing the tranny was bad too and then doing both installs again when The t-case was stuck in N from sitting in a bone-yard. Seems to drive and shift fine.
**Sound is only present when the Rover is moving in gear or in N .
**T-case shifts fine between H L N .
**have the 3 amigos on but they have been on since I bought it
**braking does nothing to change the noise
Just checked all the obvious:
*Lubed mult-drives shafts good
*t-case fluid full
*tranny fluid good
Any Clue? I had hope to go at least 100 miles before the next Dilemma!!!
Check out the Video link and listen between the wind noise and you can hear it ........Thanks for any and all input!

Sounds like badly meshing gears to me but as Dusty states, it could be a bearing going causing gear meshing noises. It's hard to tell exactly due to the high wind noise - only the wife makes more wind noise than that

ill post another vid tom........
I don't suppose changing the CDL ( manual on mine) position will prove anything right? maybe I'll re-do the fluids with mostly lucas or royal purple as I have synthetic in there now with a little lucas. When I drained a little out it was a little blackish , probably from sitting so maybe a quick change will help ???
wah.......

Sounds like gear wind-up to me.
I also noticed in your post that you mentioned "tranny fluid good". Seeing that you had just replaced the transmission.... did you top it up while the engine is idling and running through the transmission gears?

Yes, I'm an expert at fluids after re-doing it a few times
drew some tranny fluid out and looked at it and then re-topped. It looked great.
Something I was wondering in the scheme : since so many things that came off and went back on:
*possible flange Nuts too tight , too loose ? I had replaced both flanges on the old t-case so re-hashed those....
What are you referring to "gear wind-up" ?
Thanks....
