Smile Nanocom manual is wrong: adjusting windows after removing key and then opening a door

I have my vehicle set to Australian standards in the Nanocom.

So I've been playing with the Nanocom for my Discovery 2a 2003 V8 and noticed this option in the Nanocom Valeo BCU manual:

Electric Front window: The BCU can be programmed to disable operation of the front windows to conform to differing market legislative requirements.

Available options are:
(1) The front windows will be disabled 44 seconds after the driver door is opened (DRIVER CANCEL).
(2) The front windows will not be disabled (NO CANCEL).
(3) The front windows will be disabled when the ignition is turned off (ALL CANCEL).

Rear windows sunroof: Although the rear windows and sunroof are controlled by a hard-wired circuit, the rear windows and sunroof ECU are enabled by the BCU. This allows programming of the BCU to disable these outputs to conform to differing market legislative requirements.

Available options are:
(1) The rear windows and sunroof will be disabled 44 seconds after the driver door is opened (DRIVER).
(2) The rear windows and sunroof will be disabled 44 seconds after any door is opened (NO CANCEL).
(3) The rear windows and sunroof will be disabled when the ignition is turned off (ALL CANCEL).
I tried it and here's what actually happens:

(1) DRIVER CANCEL: After removing the key, the windows will be disabled instantly when the driver's door is opened. There's no 44 second grace period.

(2) NO CANCEL: After removing the key, the windows will be disabled when any door is opened. No 44 second grace period.

(3) ALL CANCEL: The windows will be disabled as soon as the key is removed. No grace period.

My questions are:
  • I want to control the windows after removing the key from the ignition AND for 44 seconds after opening a door as the manual describes.
  • Is this gonna be possible?
  • Or is there something wrong with my BCU?

P.S. I checked the RAVE D2 workshop manual and it says something different which is also not true in my case:

Electric front windows
Driver cancel: The front windows will be disabled 44 seconds after the driver's door is opened.
All cancel: The front windows will be disabled 44 seconds after any door is opened.
No cancel: The front windows will be disabled when the ignition is turned off.

Rear windows and sunroof
Driver cancel: The rear windows and sunroof will be disabled 44 seconds after the driver's door is opened.
All cancel: The rear windows and sunroof will be disabled 44 seconds after any door is opened.
No cancel: The rear windows and sunroof will be disabled when the ignition switch is turned off.

Im not going to dig out my Nano to figure this out right now, but typically after selecting a new setting, you need to tap something like “write settings” in order for it to actually make the change.

I have to believe your requirement is not possible- at least not in any vehicle I’ve ever owned to include Discos. It kinda defeats the purpose of the security system if you could do what you are wanting to do. The key point being after the ignition is off, key removed. AND the door opened just just does not seem feasible unless you were able to write fully on code for the BCU.

Ignition off, key pulled and before the door opens, yes, I’d say possible. But I think once the door is opened, all bets are off.

Yep, I saved/wrote the settings.

So why do all of the manuals say that it’s possible?

Edit: And it's not a security issue if it's only for 44 seconds after the door is opened.
